TESTIMONIALS

back

In November 2005, I had the great pleasure to assist in organizing an evening workshop to introduce QAAL members and others to harp therapy. The workshop was entitled Harp Music for Healing and Learning. Denise Llewellyn is the harpist extraordinaire, who led some 30 enthusiastic participants into a totally new area of learning. She introduced the healing powers of this mythical instrument to anyone lucky enough to be there at Concordia University, Montreal that night.

People watched and listened in rapt attention; some even dared to strum a little on her exquisite harp. From this event, QAAL gained a number of new members turned on to learning through the arts and healing through the harp, happy to join our growing membership list. I gained a warm and healing adult educator and generous friend. Keep on spreading your healing powers, dear Denise!

It is difficult to find the words to explain the emotions that ran through me the day I learned about the healing sound of the harp. I can only describe what happened: I was anguished, tears were streaming down my face with the memory of my young son’s lost battle against cancer. The memory of his crying out to me was unbearable, something I had stored away, trying to forget, until it surfaced so unexpectedly. Denise quietly took her harp and sat me down. My hands were placed alongside the harp. Softly the music started to play. I could feel the harp…feel the strings…feel the music touch my soul. Slowly I felt my anguish dissipate…and change into something else…my pain lost in the beauty of the music.

I recently had the honour of participating in Denise Llewellyn’s Music for Learning workshop. Moving and inspiring, Denise gently and respectfully guided us to a greater awareness of the potential power and healing of music in learning situations. I highly recommend this workshop to educators of children and adults. With Denise’s expertise in this field and her ability to adapt the workshop to various group dynamics, I also recommend it as a highly effective team-building retreat for committees and boards.
